April 15th/16th - Round 2, Snetterton: This weekend saw Barbara Armstrong
compete with the drive of her life in her Porsche 911 GT3, starting a lowly ninth
on the grid, Armstrong fought her way past the Michelin Porsche Cup contenders
in such a confident style on the dangerous wet track conditions, to her second
third place finish in only two ever race meetings and her first visit to Snetterton.
PARR Motorsport Team Director Paul Robe, was delighted with her achievement
and her maturity towards the drive. "Had Barbara started third or fourth
on the grid, at that pace I am sure she would have won that race, it was absolutely
magnificent" commented Robe after the sprint race.
Rookie to this competition, Armstrong, 35 of Daventry began Sunday in her least
favourite dry conditions, Barbara showed grit as she held third position for eight
laps before suffering a minor spin and then a puncture but it true rally style
‘brought the car home’.
"It was brilliant, after qualifying ninth on the grid I was very disappointed,
but with the Michelin wet tyres, they were outstanding, so much grip I was able
to pass all those drivers and finish third. It’s a shame the race wasn’t longer"
said Armstrong.
This weekend has proven that Barbara is real competition for this series, with
two races under her belt and more confidence and better lap times in the dry conditions
as well as her preferred wet, Armstrong is sure to be a threat at Donington
Park at the next PowerTour Series Meeting (28/29th April 2001).
