ED HORNER

Born:
7 December 1976
Nationality: English
Resident: London, England
Status: Single
Debut: Karting (aged 11)

Career Highlights:

  • In 1993, at the age of sixteen, Edward became the youngest ever winner of the Formula Renault Kart Scholarship. The prize package for winning this prestigious award included a five day racing tuition course at the famous ‘Winfield Ecole de Pilotage’ in France.
  • Edward qualified on the front row of the grid for his first ever single seater race in 1994. He went on to finish second, although subsequently won outright twice in his debut season.
  • In 1997 and 1998 Edward competed in the Lombard Caterham Vauxhall Challenge and Caterham Superlight series with Hyperion Motorsport. The team, which ran a large squad of drivers each season, named him Hyperion Driver of the Year on both occasions.
  • In 1998 Edward scored the most points, won the most races and set the greatest number of fastest laps of any competitor in the series -but had to be content with second place in the championship due to the “dropped scores” principle.
  • In his first ever GT race (Marcos Mantis Challenge, 1999), Edward secured pole position, set fastest lap (establishing a new record) and won the class. He subsequently took the championship.
  • Last season Edward contested the Autobytel Lotus Elise Sport Championship. He lead the series for much of the season before settling for second place at the close.
  • Edward Horner and Matt Turner were team-mates last year. They are sponsored by Corus Hotels for a second successive season.
  • During his racing career Edward has won 23 races and set pole on 19 occasions. Like many aspiring GT drivers, Edward’s ambition is to compete in, and win, the Le Mans 24 Hours
