MARINO FRANCHITTI
Born: 7th July 1978
Nationality: Scottish
Resident: Broxburn, Scotland
Status: Single
Debut: Karting, aged 9
Career Highlights:
- After emerging victorious from the Jim Russel Racing School, Marino looked
to a career in single-seaters. Contesting selected rounds in Formula Vauxhall
for three years, but never a full season, Marino tried his hand at Formula Ford
in 1999. He was rewarded with two pole positions and the chance for a full season.
- Last year saw Marino complete his first full season in single-seaters. He
raced with the ascendant Aztec International squad in the Formula Ford Zetec Championship
alongside Gary Catt. Marino narrowly missed out on a podium at Knockhill - his
“home” track.
- After his season in FF Autosport declared Franchitti to be “impressive” and
a “rising talent”. Porsche GB chose Marino to co-drive the #53 911 GT3 RS as part
of a new initiative intended to assist young talent and identify future sportscar
stars.
- Marino has already made his mark in pre-season testing, having set some of
quickest times during official, weather-affected sessions.
- Motor racing is clearly in the Franchitti blood. Marino is younger brother
of Team Green Champ star Dario.
- Although keen to reach the top in sportscar racing, Marino does not rule out
a return to single-seaters
